I was exclusivly LG phones. I have my G8x thinQ. I always loved the little new quirks they will try on almost every new phone. the back fingerprint scanner is what got me to stay LG. now I really dont know what I am going to use anymore cause LG has always been great for me. dang, now I have to do research again for my next upgrade.

I would say the Stylo series was a solid competitor in the budget range. I am one of the few people who is genuinely disappointed by LG leaving the phone market. My favorite phones have almost always been LG. I loved my G6 and my current phone, the V50. They absolutely could compete with the big boys but they were just TERRIBLE at marketing their phones. They also had excellent DACs in their phones so they had the best sound of any other phones on the market.

Also a couple more things about the Optimus and the V series of phones mentioned in the video, specifically the optimus 3D and the first V phone the V10. 1) The LG Optimus 3D was the first smartphone to have no glasses 3D, perhaps inspired by the Nintendo 3DS, but in a period where the 3D gimmick was making a comeback everywhere, it made a whole lot of sense, but more importantly it inovated even more on this gimmick by having eye tracking to shift the image so that the incredibly small sweetspot necessary for the no glasses 3D tech to work was not an issue anymore, something that Nintendo originally didn't do, but later implemented in the "New" nintendo 3DS. Also, the video states the Optimus 3D as the first phone with two cameras, well yes, but not in the sense we actually intend nowadays, it had two cameras for the purpose of taking 3D photos and videos. 2) I'm not a 100% sure on this so take it with a grain of salt, but the V series of phones where the first phones by a non-chinese/mainstream brand to include and actively advertise the hi-fi DAC, making the V10 the go-to smartphone for audiophiles. Back then if you were an audiophile that wanted to take hi-fi on the go, you either had to spend a fortune on portable high-end players that primarily run on their own OS and focused on playing locally stored music files thus losing access to streaming apps, or "build a brick" comprised of your everyday phone >connected by cable to a portable external amp and/or dac, which came in different shapes and sizes so not all amps/dacs would fit your smarphone or even your pocket, usually secured to the back of the device through rubber bracelets, making this a clunky solutions that also heavily taxed portability/convenience. But when you have it all in one phone, it makes it so easy.

LG is not a hero. My LG g8x is proof that they should have stopped making phones a while ago. They lost the carriers collaboration, so when my USB C port stopped working, sprint told me I had to mail it to LG for repair, but due to a hairline crack resembling more of a scratch, LG sent it back unrelated and there was a huge crack in the corner. I can't wait to smash this phone with a sledge ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

I wanted to make a recommendation, can you talk about the security of our cell phones? The FBI and the police cannot protect us in this virtual and anonymous world, we depend on our computers and cell phones and the programs we use to be safe, but they are not. I think we pay more attention to the cell phone camera than to our safety and that of our families. What do you think?

Hey Marques, I like your description of balancing innovation with stability, but I think you might be missing that LG actually may have been striking the perfect balance here. Like you said in the video, they do a lot of things, so it may be that smartphones were the experimental line. Rather than being a smartphone company with an experimental line of models, they are a tech company with an experimental line of smartphones.

For me - why not an LG phone? .. they are so non descript. They "are" - and that is about it. They are sometimes very interesting like the wing .. but not so much that i would pay a premium for it. (and i do not care for specs) - my first smartphone was a nokia 520. up until then, i used a 3310. So the 520 Lumia was the first phone that introduced me to a smartphone (what a great start to use a windows phone that was on its dying way out) .. but - i actually used this phone for pretty much the longest time of most smartphones. I loved the camera (what was it .. a single 2mp rear camera?) i played games on it .. and i used it for chats. - my second smartphone was a nokia 6. That was mostly brand loyalty .. but it was the first Android phone .. so i wanted something simple. Nokia 6 was exactly that - simple. I never cared much for its "well being". I did not use a case for it, i never had a screen protector ... and i tossed it around quite a bit. Today, it looks like crap - it is scratched down to its aluminium body, i have put stickers on it . and after so many years .. the battery really does not hold a charge anymore - but the screen is still intact, no cracks (but a lot of deep lvl 7 grooves to quote jerryrigeverything) - my third phone was an iPhone x, i was getting into my new job - and wanted to treat myself a little. (see what that is? treat oneself with luxury) - so the iPhone brand substituted for "something special". It was clear that the iphone was not worth the money - but it looked very nice (i do not like Apple products, BUT i like their object design language - for the most part). However .. i gave it to my sister shortly after, because i could not get into the Apple ecosystem and OS. - the next phone was a Samsung A80, more an intermediate phone after giving the iphone away. Why Samsung? Because (mostly via youtube actually) Samsung had the air of quality, stability and high end. I never considered one of the Chinese brands like Xiami, Oppo, Huawei etc. (i know they are brilliant phones, but they always had the air of a "plastic novelty" rather than an adults phone - and i know that is judgemental and unfair - and also wrong) Truthfully however .. i went for the A80, because i found the flippy, spinny camera funny. What an utterly useless feature. So i got that phone specifically - because Samsung is such a conservative phone maker - that offered such an extraverted phone. (it stood out) - currently, i use a note 10+ which i am quite happy with. But it is the most boring phone i had. - the only reason i got it was not the specs, not the pen, not the brand ... it was because at that time .. it was the only phone with sharp, squared edges (i do not like the rounded ones so much) the whole time ... LG was never even on the radar. It had always been either low profile and "local" (nokia), luxury nonsense (Apple) or functional (Samsung) - with side glances at all those ugly budget phones that plaster their slogans boldly on their phone backs (embarrassing). I would put LG squarely into the category with Sony - they are phone i would recommend ... to my papa. LG kind of failed to make a name for itself that springs to mind. When it comes to buying a TV, i would totally go for a LG brand. But for phones ... not really.
